I've had a very quiet Christmas. And, amazingly, I did not overeat. I usually spend Christmas with my sisters and/or with my aunts in Penang, and there's always so much good food just waiting to be scoffed.
This year, Christmas was spent with Martin's parents and sister and we had a simple lunch and a little more elaborate dinner, but there weren't trays of cookies and great slabs of cake lying all over the place. This was probably a good thing as both my obstetrician and I are watching my weight. Still, it was weird.
Also,
I couldn't find part of our fake Christmas tree and this was on
Christmas eve (I've been really bad at getting my act together this
year) and so, too late to go get a new one, which made me and Elesh
rather sad.
He did, however, have a stocking which I stuffed full of chocs, sweets, stickers, and an Incredibles GameBoy cartridge.
I got some great book gifts: Martin (apart from a really cool Emily The Strange wallet) gave me A. S. Byatt's Portraits in Fiction.
My good friend Kwan got me a First Edition of Jean Estoril's Drina Dances in Exile. (I love it so much.) And she got Martin and me a couple of Baby Blues compilations. I spent an hour reading them early this morning and woke Martin up with my guffaws.
Last, but certainly not least, Kit (my friend at Kinokuniya) gave me Yellow Umbrella
(a picture book by Jae Soo Liu). It has no words but comes with a CD
that you're supposed to listen to while looking at the illustrations.
I haven't done that yet, but plan to, soon. Maybe during my maternity
leave in February!
