I've just heard a wonderful reading of Polar Bear Night by its author Lauren Thompson. The picture book (illustrated by Steven Savage) describes a polar bear cub exploring his surroundings in the dead of night. The snow is falling, his mother and other animals are sleeping, and the silence is illuminated by the bright light of star showers.
I adore the feeling of peace that the pictures and words bring and Thompson's gentle, sleepy voice conveys so well the wonder polar cub feels as he explores his magical, wintry world.
Listen to the reading (you must register first but it's worth the time) by going here and then scrolling down to the Multimedia section. Enjoy!
