I get people asking me what's in the black bag I lug around with me.
It's my handy book-bag in which I carry ... books! Including, my Book at Breakfast, books I'm curently reading because I need to review them, books I've just been given or bought, that I'm so thrilled with that I can't let out of my sight, etc, etc.
1. Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne.
This was my Book at Breakfast before Murakami's Dance Dance Dance nudged it out of the way. (Where the hell is Dance Dance Dance?) Anyway, I intend to get back to 80 Days once I've finished Dance.
2. A CD! Love Psychedelic!! Haven't heard it yet, but have been promised that it is good.
3. Botchan and Totto-Chan, two classic Japanese children's novels. I just got these this morning and I really looking forward to reading them, especially Totto-Chan which is about "an ideal school in Tokyo during World War II that combined learning with fun, freedom and love."
4. Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi. Wonderful and gossipy - this is her third graphic novel.
5. Saturday by Ian McEwan. I carry this around hoping I'll get inspired enough to write the damn review!
6. Persepolis 2 by Marjane Satrapi. Persepolis (1) was my introduction to graphic novels. I was so happy to get this sequel this morning that I read it while driving!! Read about that little adventure here.
Of course, there's a lot of other rubbish in the bag, like unpaid bills; wedding invitations addressed to Mr And Mrs Martin Vengadesan! (When will these idiots ever learn?! Grrrr!!!); pens that no longer work; lip balm; credit card receipts; postcards from faraway lands; families of mice (those that can't find a place to stay under my desk), a padlock, the pashmina that keeps me warm in this ice-box of an Editorial floor; notes for my articles ... you get the idea ... all sorts of junk.
Ha ha ha even your bag bespeaks your "please don't call me mrs" pet peeve!

that's a great picture of a stack of books... good lighting... so sexy. *grin*
i read Embroideries in two trips to a bookstore over here, all the while throwing really guilty looks at passers-by. so i don't suppose i can fault your wanting to read persepolis 2 while driving... malaysians never really drive with the utmost concentration, do they?
