India Opal Buloni, the lonely only daughter of the new preacher in town, meets a stray dog when she's out grocery shopping and decides to adopt him.
Winn-Dixie (the name of convenience store she frequents) is the moniker Opal chooses for her new pet and things begin to change for the 10-year-old from the moment this large, hairy, ugly mutt enters her life.
Winn-Dixie's lovable and attractive nature helps Opal make friends with some unlikely people including the local "witch" and the ex-convict who runs the pet store. Best of all, the dog brings Opal and her dad closer together so that they can finally share their sorrow and disappointment over Opal's mother, who left the family when the little girl was still a baby.
As Opal learns more about the people around her and listens to their compelling, surprising stories, she begins to view the world and others in different ways and finds that this has a profoundly healing affect on her own emotional wounds.
This is a lovely, little book that you can read very quickly and easily. Opal narrates and Kate DiCamiilo is very successful in writing from the point of view of an honest, cheeky young girl who is full of life and hope, but has also been touched by sadness.
For readers who live in the Klang Valley, Payless Bookstore outlets always have a few copies of this book. I got mine there for RM5!
you need to make a web site right now whe re you can see some pitcures of book. other wise your book was good but boring at the same time.
