Big Mama creates a beautiful world and still has time to be a good mum
to her little baby. Helen Oxenbury's illustrations are beautiful,
especially when she tints each picture spread with washes of
transluscent colour. And of course, you just want to scoop Big Mama's
baby out of the book and into your arms. Traditionalists might be up in
arms over Root's depiction of a woman as creator of the world, but
then, whoever heard of Father Nature?
