Maria Gripe, the author of The Glassblower's Children, was born in 1923 in Vaxholm, Sweden. Thirteen of her novels have been translated into English, but I have only come across The Glassblower's Children, which won the Hans Chritian Andersen Award 1974.
The pictures in the book were drawn by Swedish illustrator Harald Gripe, who was also her husband.
The following illustrations are from the 1976 Target edition, published by Wyndham, translated by Sheila la Farge and illustrated by Harald Gripe. (Click on the thumbnails for bigger versions of the pictures):
Chapter 2, pg 14: Flutter Mildweather and her raven, Wise Wit.
Chapter 6, pg 53: "It was a black, closed carriage, drawn by two horses."
Chapter 7, pg 57: "The house stood in a most remarkable town. All Wishes Town it was called - but it doesn't exist anymore."
Chapter 11, pg 92: "All at once they realised how lonely they were."
Chapter 13, pg 109: "After a while she rose, dressed, and walked out into the moonlight. The village lay there sleeping. But, up on the old Gallows Hill, a pale light shone from the window under the apple tree."
