Old Tom's Holiday
Written & illustrated by Leigh Hobbs
Publisher: Little Hare/ABC Books, 32 pages
Angela Throgmorton (what a glorious name!) has a cat called Old Tom. He is a huge ginger who always looks like he's been in the wars - black eye, leg in a cast, generally scruffy. His expressions range from leering to diabolical to smirky (if that's even a word!).
Angela's loves Tom with all her heart, but even the best of friends need a break from each other sometimes and so when Angela wins a free holiday she decides to leave Old Tom behind.
Of course, she misses him madly while she's away - so much so that she begins to see him wherever she goes! Or maybe, just maybe it really is Old Tom!
Leigh Hobbs' illustrations are colourful and messy, and full of humorous detail. Both Angela and Old Tom burst with character, and the scenery will inspire many of a young (and not-so-young) artist to pick up his/her paintbrush!
