A number of movies based on children's books are due out this year.
I'm looking forward to Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are (October), directed by Spike Jonze (check out the stills at imdb.com - the boy doesn't look very Max-ish to me, but at least none of the wild things seem to have been left out); and Neil Gaiman's Coraline (I definitely do NOT like the look of the animation from the stills on imdb.com). I would love it if they made a movie of The Graveyard Book, except that it's always hit or miss, especially if you really love the book.
That's why I'm quite nervous about Wild Things, and I have yet to watch The Golden Compass. The Seeker (based on The Dark is Rising) will be on telly soon and I'm wondering if I should risk it.
Other lit-related films I'm curious about: Brideshead Revisited and Bright Star (about John Keats). Both star Ben Whishaw (as Sebastian Flyte and Keats), and he just looks wrong in the stills for Brideshead. Surely the film can't come close to the brilliance of the telly series starring Anthony Andrews (as Sebastian) and Jeremy Irons as Charles Ryder? (Or am I just showing my age?)
